Bhandara college fraud part of fake admission racket

Thursday 30 August 2012

NAGPUR: More skeletons are tumbling out of Bhandara's Shivaji Science College with senior academicians in Nagpur University terming it as a clear case of 'fake admissions' which the NU authorities are trying to suppress by charging Rs5.50 lakh from the college. They demanded that the NU file a police complaint immediately instead of passing the buck onto the Amravati-based Shivaji Education Society "which is equally responsible for the mess".
Varsity PRO Prashant Mohite directed all queries to controller of examinations (COE) Siddarth Kane who, however, was not available for comments.
Flaying the NU administration for shielding the accused, the academicians questioned how top officials, including vice chancellor Vilas Sapkal and COE, were legalizing the illegal admissions by fining the college a hefty amount. "The case is just like Kohchade scam where as many as 76 students were caught and made accused as their marks were increased in Tabulation Register (TR). In this case, right from admissions to exams, everything is fake and marks of the students are not yet written on the TR. They are yet to be provided enrolment numbers despite the fact that exam was over about three months back," said the academicians who are well-versed with the NU's examination system.
The academicians questioned how 54 additional question papers and answer-sheets were provided to the Pauni-based college. "The COE has a chart of how many students are appearing in each centre and, accordingly, he dispatches the questions sets there well in advance, sometimes about a month before the exams. At the most, four to five question papers could be provided extra, but certainly not 54 papers," they informed.
They added that when NU's flying squads conducted surprise checks at exam centres, roll numbers to students' identity were checked. "In this case, either the squads were managed or they simply failed to visit the college. In the Kohchade scam, the students were also made beneficiaries, but here they are being let off in exchange of fine. This will surely set a wrong precedent," the academicians said.
Accusing the NU administration of acting under the pressure from the Shivaji Society and not taking action against the principal Namdeo Meshram, senior clerk Jitendra Kirsal and exam in-charge Sanjay Raibole, the academicians alleged that without their involvement, a fraud of such a big magnitude could not have taken place.
"The fake identity cards were generated by the clerk and even seating arrangements of 54 students were made for all five to six papers during all three years of BSc. Even extra question sets and answer-sheets were provided to the fake students and it was sent to Exam Section of valuation even as NU keeps a close tab on their numbers. The answer-sheets were also evaluated. All this points out to a big fraud in collusion with NU officials," they alleged.
