On Tuesday, it was a one-sided affair with the Vidyapeeth Vidyarthi Sangram Parishad (VVSP) led by Senate member Mohan Bajpayee and Kiran Pandav having a cakewalk in the absence of any strong opposition. There was no representation from NSUI while rivals ABVP and NCP failed to make any dent.
Out of the 15 nominated candidates, two from VVSP were elected as president and secretary of the council, respectively, by preferential voting. Annasaheb Gundewar College's Umakant Balle was voted as the president while Rosaline Mundoo from DBM College of Physical Education, Gondia, was selected as the secretary.
The action for the polls began in the last week of September and around 800 colleges spread over six districts in NU's jurisdiction participated. Balle, a second year MCom student, highlighted various hardships faced by the students but gave utmost priority to the erroneous method of paper checking.
"I have seen many top-ranking students failing miserably. The examiners are reckless and do not bother about our future," he charged, adding that the conditions are the worst for students belonging to the rural districts, who are deprived of various facilities.
The Students' Council office-bearers presented an agenda for the year. Bajpayee informed that crucial issues like delay in results and revaluation would be raised in the NU Senate. "Many students are unable to take admissions to next stage due to the delay in results. Moreover, the process of revaluation is very time-consuming and mismanaged," he said.
Adding that they would be demanding total revamp in revaluation process and action against the wrongdoers.
The Senate member further informed that they would be insisting on their long-term demand of a separate student's section in the main administrative block of NU. "We will also ask for an advisory committee that will make sure that the funds issued on the names of various departments are used for the purpose," he added.
